| The Cat Welfare Association was founded in 1945 by a small group of people who saw the need for an organization designed specifically to help the many stray and abused cats in the Columbus area. We are a non-profit organization that's objective has always been to promote better care and understanding of cats while providing for the physical welfare of homeless cats and kittens. |

The cats taken into our care are strays and frequently have been abused or injured. We give them plenty of tender loving care along with any necessary medical treatment they might need. Our shelter provides a home for these cats and kittens until they are adopted-- whether it be for a short time or if they live out the rest of their lives in our shelter. |
| Adult cats may be adopted for $60 and kittens for a $70 fee. This covers vaccinations, de-worming, feline leukemia testing, FIV testing (of adult cats), microchipping, and spaying/neutering. All adult cats are spayed/neutered before they are adopted out, while arrangements for the future altering of kittens must be made at the time of adoption. We offer a 10 day return policy, but we will always take back our cats if for some reason the adoptive parent can no longer care for them. | ![]() |

Cat Welfare also maintains a low cost Altering Fund for pet owners who are in need of financial assistance to help get their pet(s) spayed or neutered. The purpose of the fund is : 1) to help in the constant battle against pet overpopulation, and 2) to help provide a healthier and happier life for cats. In 2007, Cat Welfare's Altering Fund and free clinics helped 1,689 cats (and over 19,000 since 1990) get this important surgery. |
| In 1999, Cat Welfare moved to a newly renovated facility. The building provides over 5,600 square feet of space. Dedicated in-take, exam, isolation, and recovery rooms and separate ventilation systems enable us to more effectively isolate and treat those animals requiring medical attention. Our new shelter also has a play room for kittens and a large adoptable cats room that is full of comfy beds, cat trees, and perches for our floor cats to enjoy. The building also houses our weekly Saturday garage sale fund raiser and has increased storage space for food, litter, & shelter supplies. | ![]() |

Housing, feeding, sterilizing, and medicating an average of 250 cats daily requires a great deal of money. Our income is entirely from membership dues, donations, bequests, and a variety of fund raising projects. All money received goes directly towards maintaining our shelter and it's feline residents. In 2007, Cat Welfare adopted out 888 cats (and over 17,500 since 1990) to loving homes. |
Cat Welfare could not operate without volunteers. There is a continuing need for help in all areas of our work. If you would like to help by becoming a member, volunteer, or contributor, then please contact us. By exploring our web page you can find out what's been going on at the shelter, read our most current newsletter, learn about some of our special adoption kitties, hear about former shelter residents that are now in happy homes, shop for nifty items for your pet (or yourself), and discover how you can become one of our permanent resident's guardian angel. We appreciate your interest in our shelter! |
