CHARLIE

10-23-2006

It is with great sadness that I write to tell you that Charlie passed away last night. He took a quick turn for the worse the last couple of days and started to become very weak on Saturday. The staff tried to help get him strong again but by Sunday morning it was becoming obvious that something was seriously wrong and he was not going to make it. The staff said their good-byes and one of the staff members made an emergency appointment with one of our vets to have him euthanized around 7pm Sunday evening. The last time I saw Charlie earlier in the week he was enjoying sitting in the sun on the sun porch on a little red children's chair. Charlie was one of my favorite guys at the shelter and I will miss his handsome face and beautiful fur. He was always one of the faces I would look for when I'd go into the recovery room or onto the sun porch.

Thank you so much for caring about Charlie. Your support of Charlie made a difference in the life of this special boy. For those of his guardian angels that were able to come in and visit with him, your attention and love greatly helped him come out of his shell and want to get attention.

Thanks again for caring about Charlie. He will be cremated and buried in our memory garden next to the sun porch... and next to his friend Bosworth.

Charlie's original story remains below.

Charlie has lived at Cat Welfare since January 1998. Charlie is very proud of the fact that he was Bosworth's (our former spokescat that went to the Rainbow Bridge in June 2002) best friend. Charlie would sleep next to Bosworth and follow him around like a shadow. He would even wash Bosworth's face and ears. Charlie became very lonely after Bosworth died. Eventually, he made a new friend in Wild Bill (who went to the Rainbow Bridge in May 2005) and that helped mend his heart. Charlie seems to realize now that he can make new friends and hopefully he'll find another buddy sometime soon. He is not aggressive but he still very much will shy away from people. Sometimes Charlie can get very playful and will run around the sun porch like he's a track star. We all love Charlie for his kind, caring nature to the many feline residents at the shelter. Since Charlie is so sweet to the other cats, we sometimes ask him to report on what's going on back on the sun porch for our newsletter. He is such a beautiful cat and we hope that he'll continue to trust all of us more and more.
