GUIDO
Guido came into Cat Welfare in December 1998. He has his territories staked out and is a somber guardian of the cage top world. His nickname is Gargoyle because you can usually find him on top of the cages, snuggled in a bed, looking down and surveying the shelter. He doesn't get along with men, but likes to be around women. He very rarely comes down from his cage top perch - only to take litter box breaks or to get special treats. He's very spoiled in that he gets his own special food and water bowls delivered to him on top of the cages. When he sees the staff starting to clean off the cage tops, he knows it's his feeding time and he comes to check out the fresh water and food. He did have a home briefly in 1999 but was returned because all he did was hide and because he was extremely scared. At Cat Welfare, we give him the love and space he needs. Because gargoyles are supposed to be good luck - Guido is our good luck cat!
Update October 26, 2006 - We lost our little Guido around 11:30am today. The last couple of days he had seemed a little under the weather and yesterday our vet ran blood work on him. When the staff came in this morning, he was having a hard time standing and seemed very week. Our vet reviewed his blood work results and they showed that he was in chronic liver failure. The staff discussed whether aggressive treatment should be pursued or if it was time to let Guido go. Everyone decided the best thing would be to let him go.
His best friend, Donna, was with him in the end. Everyone said their goodbyes and Donna held and comforted him in his final moments as he was euthanized by our vet at the shelter. He will be cremated and buried in our memory garden by the shelter's sun porch.
Thank you so much for caring for Guido. We will greatly miss him watching over us.
