Sassy

Sassy came to the shelter in July 2003 when she was about a year old. Sassy loves sitting in people's laps when they are using the computer in the staff room. She gets mad when they say it is time for her to get off. She always wants to be the one to decide when she gets to be in someone's lap and when lap time is over. You can't force her to sit in your lap or tell her to get off. Otherwise, she might nip at you and order you to obey! Her nipping and quick change in behavior (which scares some people) has resulted in Sassy never having been adopted. She mainly lives in the kitchen at the shelter as she is not a big fan of other cats and has been known to drastically beat on other cats when she feels too crowded. Sassy absolutely loves to play with the laser pointer. She really gets into playing with it. She moves her head from side to side to make sure she doesn't lose sight of the red “dot”. She is also pretty fast at pouncing on the dot and gets very possessive if one of the other cats is trying to chase it with her. She has a permanent head tilt, but the staff is not sure what caused it. We think it just adds to her cuteness!

Update: December 2007 - Sassy has been adopted and we are hoping that her new home will be a permanent one. Once she has been in her home for a couple months and we know it is her forever home, then we will be updating this page with the happy news and will move her profile to our previous Guardian Angels cats section. We have already received an email from her new mom letting us know how she is doing. Her new mom wrote, "She hid in the closet for the first five minutes before she came out and made herself at home. She loves to play and run around the apartment chasing imaginary prey. Otherwise, she's pretty much a permanent fixture on my lap or those of my guests. She seems content in her new home and I'm so happy to have her living with me. Thank you for helping me find such a wonderful friend."

Update: January 2008 - Sassy is doing very well. She seems like a very happy kitty. I believe she would play 10 hours a day if I was up for it, because she always wants to chase the laser pointer, feathers, string, toy mice, balls, or the yarn I'm trying to knit with. I'm really not sure how a 5 year old cat that spent 4 years in a laundry room can have so much energy, but we have a good time. She loves to explore the hallways of my apartment building, as long as I'm close at hand. Her favorite hide outs are in a Trader Joe's grocery bag and the desk chair she has adopted as her personal lounger. She likes to be sitting on me whenever possible, especially when I'm trying to sleep. Everyone who comes to visit loves playing and sitting with her, and some have said they want to get a cat now (I always suggest Cat Welfare!) She also doesn't nip anymore.
