Kaspurr was adopted September 29, 2007. I was looking for a playmate for my 5 year old Cockapoo Zoe. He was the first one I picked up and he never stopped purring in my arms. I walked around and walked around and looked and petted many of the other cats but this one just layed there looking up at me with those big eyes while I rubbed his belly! He is the most lovable cat I have had and is so adaptable to any situation. He and Zoe became fast friends and playmates (although Zoe must remain Alpha dog!) There is a lot of chasing, a lot of loving and most of all a lot of PURRING. He was originally named Kaspur but since his "motor" runs so much, his name was changed to Kaspurr! He loves to play with twistie ties, watch all the birds and rabbits from his cat tree and as you can see, is quite helpful with the bills and paperwork. Thank you for all you do and for bringing the "little gladiator" to my home.

We keep reminiscing about the happy day we found these two wonderful litter mates at Cat Welfare. We had come in with the hope of finding one good match for our family, which we did almost immediately. But Earl’s litter-mate, Stormy, started crying as soon as he was taken from their cage. He was crying back to her from his go-home box, too. It really tugged at our heartstrings. We just had to take them both home together. It’s one of the best decisions we ever made. We love them so much, and as you can see they love each other very much, too. Now known as Henry and Mary, they are the focus of love and attention from our whole family.

I just wanted to say thank you for all of the amazing work you do and devotion you give to the rescued animals in your care. My boyfriend, Nathan (now fiance) and I adopted Oliver, a very handsome black and white tuxedo, August 26, 2007 and have fallen head over heels for him. We decided to rename him Harry, because he has a white streak between his eyes that looks like a famous "lightning bolt scar." He was a gift to me for our 2 year anniversary, as I had been asking for a cat for months--my parents have always had a cat in the house and I was finally ready to adopt my own!
Harry was literally the last cat I saw before getting ready to leave for the day to "sleep on" my final decision. I noticed that one of the cages on the walls was empty and the name tag said that "Oliver" was already declawed (a big plus since I can't bear to do that myself but had just bought new furniture). As we were turning to leave I happened to see a beefy ball of fluff plop down at my feet, and that this cat's collar said his name was Oliver. Needless to say, I picked him up, and decided the fates had caused our lives to intertwine that day.
Harry has truly been a blessing and continues to brighten our days and bring a new light to our small apartment. He is the first cat I've met who is not fazed by catnip, turns his nose up at toys but loves to play with a 10 cent piece of string, chew on pens, and plays hide and seek. We still can't figure out why his first family ever gave him up--he has never had an accident, doesn't eat "people food" or beg, is extremely friendly, well-behaved and tolerant (you can pet him everywhere!). He keeps us company as we study, enjoys laying by the heater on his over-sized pillow, comes running as soon as we get home from work and greets us every morning when the alarm goes off. He is also very intelligent, and knows how to "sit," "jump," and "come." His affection is endless, and he freely gives kisses, "eye blinks", kneading, and loud purrs to anyone who will pet him (I've heard it is a great honor to be groomed by a cat!). He really is a prince, and we can't wait to move to a bigger home this summer so we can adopt another feline friend to keep him company! Thank you again for taking care of this amazing creature, he has certainly found his forever home.

First, we want to give a HUGE thank you to one of your volunteers, Kelly, who actively matched our daughter with Moonlight. They are a PURR-FECT match!
Second, we want to just say how very grateful we are to Cat Welfare
for this little treasure. We have only had Moonlight (his eyes are
light moons) since Valentine's week. But, he is a pet-me and purr
machine, a rag doll allowing my daughter to hold him every minute
they can both stand it, and he has plenty of kitten in him much to
our amusement. THANK YOU.
We came to Cat Welfare every week starting January 2nd. We, sadly,
just missed out on two other seemingly purrfect cats (Holly and
Doug), so, when Kelly told us about this new little black kit-cat, we
tried to brace ourselves. But, it only took one visit and we were
sure. He played basketball and soccer with a ping pong and did not
tire of my daughter's attention.
Match made in heaven. Thank you, again.

We adopted Callie in the spring of 2003. She was a special adoption because she was a very anxious kitty and she preferred to stay back in the corner by the sink. We were even advised not to adopt her but we loved her so much and we wanted to give her a good home! We renamed her Caliente, and we still call her Callie sometimes, and sometimes we call her Ente. She answers to both.
It took her a while to warm up to us, but eventually she came around and now she even rubs up against us and allows us to pet her. She plays with her calico sister Prudence a lot. We also catch her playing with various toys from time to time, and her favorite treat is catnip. She still will not allow us to hold her or pick her up, but she shows her love in so many other ways. She even naps with Mommy as long as Daddy isn't in bed too!
We still hope that one day she will overcome her remaining fears and want to be a lapcat! One of our favorite sounds is her loud purr, which always greets us and tells us she loves us even if we can't hold her and snuggle with her.
Her favorite place is on our bed and I've even caught her under the covers once!
We love Callie very much and are so very happy Cat Welfare allowed her to come live with us. We believe she is very happy and nowhere near as anxious or scared as she once was.

My wife and I had been looking for a cat for about two months. I finally found one at Cat Welfare that seemed to have all of the characteristics we were looking for. The volunteers told me about her prior life. Rose had been in a home before, but once a baby arrived that was allergic to cats, Rose found herself in a cage in November 2007. She had been declawed and wasn't the happiest kitty in the world. Initially, she was pretty feisty, and I wasn't sure this match in heaven would work, but it did.
When Rose first came into our home, she was timid and we spent quite a bit of time looking for her and then we discovered her hiding places. In time she has adjusted quite nicely just like the volunteers told me she would, and as you can see from the enclosed photo, she no longer hides under the bed............she is stretching out on TOP of the bed, as if she owns it (and probably think she does)!
She's a sweetheart, and we REALLY enjoy her. We've been thinking of changing her name to "Lucky".............a lucky day for her when I saw her................and a lucky day for us that she was right there waiting for us.
Thank you Cat Welfare!!!!!!!!!!!

Chelsea is really liking her new home. She’s made great friends with Pedro, another Cat Welfare Alumni. She’s also highly tolerant of Jessie the dog. Chelsea’s favorite activity is playing with a bottle cap in the bathtub. She also enjoys removing the screen from the bathtub drain – she carries it around the house. So far I’ve found it when it’s gone missing, which is a good thing!
I know Chelsea spent months at Cat Welfare and all I can say is she must have been waiting for me because she’s a perfect addition to the household!

Izzy was adopted on December 2, 2007. Her new home is with myself, Mark Jones. I recently had moved to Columbus from Fort Wayne, Indiana bringing Smokey, my pal of 16.5 years. In early November, Smokey developed heart problems and, reluctantly, had to be put to sleep. Anyone who has ever had to do this knows what a difficult and heart-wrenching experience this can be. After a month of grieving over my loss, my friend Brian McMillen took me to Cat Welfare to find another companion. I was looking for a new friend who enjoyed being petted, brushed and loved...when I took Izzy out of the cage, she instantly crawled into my arms and laid her head on my shoulder. Izzy has since adjusted well to her new home and unconditional love on Columbus' southwest side! Thank you Cat Welfare for rescuing Izzy!! She has been eating as much as I can feed her and continues to gain weight (she was skinny)!

Thanks so much for allowing Alvin (formerly Leon) to go home with us. He has become fast friends with our 9 year old cat Simone and she has a new pep in her step chasing him all around the house (when he's not chasing her that is!) Our little Maggie loves how he will let her pull and tug at his fur without so much as a snip. He scoots away as soon as she lets go though! And his favorite sleeping spot is on my husband! We are so happy he found us!! Thanks to all of you! Keep up the great work.

We visited the Cat Welfare shelter on September 25th, 2007 hoping to meet a special cat to bring home. As soon as we saw Picasso in his cage we were overtaken by his sweet personality and mutual interest in us. We learned from the staff that he had only been with them about a month, and had undergone a surgical operation to remove several malignant tumors from his throat, neck, and right ear, and was already 12 years old. Despite his history and age, we adopted him that afternoon with the highest hopes his medical needs were over, but with the understanding that we may have challenges ahead. Soon after settling him in with us we noticed that his ear wasn't healing properly and that his energy and spirit had started to fade. Another surgery was mandatory, as the tumor was growing as fast as his weight was dropping. This time, thankfully, his surgery was successful and the entire tumor had been removed - as was the majority of Picasso's ear. We owe a huge thanks to Cat Welfare and Oak Creek Vet Hospital for saving our cat and standing by their health guarantee. Picasso has made a complete recovery and now without the burden of illness, he is the most playful, mischievous, and affectionate cat we have ever had the pleasure of knowing! Everyday I am reminded of how close we were to losing him, and grateful that he was given yet another chance with the help of this wonderful program and the people who give their time and money to keep it up and running!
Most sincerely,

I adopted my Bella Stella a little over a year ago in November 2006. She got her name from the comet and meteor shaped markings on her face and the calico coat pattern that looks like telescope photos of stellar nurseries. When my last cat died some time ago, friends commented that my house did not seem like my home without a cat. They were right. As I searched through the sea of cats at CWA, I realized that I did not need to choose. I had already been chosen by the little calico that had patiently followed me around the shelter. Bella Stella continues to follow me around the house, sleep peacefully on my lap, proudly bring me her favorite toys each morning, and light my life.

Hi. I adopted a cat from you on 12/19/07. Her name
was Kayla, I believe, but I have renamed her Chelsea.
After my cat, Bug, died in December, I decided to
adopt another cat from Cat Welfare and found Chelsea.
She had been there nine months and was not very happy
about that. The first two days Chelsea did not come
out to eat or drink. However, I have had her for
almost two months and she is now a real part of my
life. She has taught me that she "fetches" the ball,
so we play many times a day. She likes to give kisses
on the nose or chin with her little sandpaper tongue.
She is an absolute delight and it is a great fit!

We adopted Donner and Blitzen, who we renamed Bert and Ernie. After losing our beagle a few years ago, we all really wanted a new pet. After going to several shelters, we finally found the two best cats in the world at Cat Welfare. Ernie (red collar) is fearless and will venture to any part of the house after just being here for two days. Bert (blue collar) is more timid and waits on his brother to let him know everything is okay. Thank you Cat Welfare for making the adoption process so simple and keeping a home for Bert and Ernie until we found them.

For the two months after my right-hand cat, Perry, died, it was a Saturday ritual to visit Cat Welfare. Perry and I were friends for 10 years and his death was completely unexpected. Needless to say, I was heart-broken. The apartment was too quiet, but I couldn't see another cat in my life quite yet. Weekly visits to the shelter were just what the doctor ordered. I became acquainted with such lovely cats as Maxwell, Kringle, Gemini and Mrs. Biggensworth, not to mention the numerous kittens roaming the floor. Their affection and distinct personalities were truly a delight in my mourning.
I woke that particular Saturday morning after a dream about a cat named "Little Brother." He was frisky and playfully naughty, but he couldn't stay. I had the dream before; sometime after Perry's brother Hamlet passed. Feeling slightly out of sorts after such an intense dream, I dressed and made my way to the shelter, coffee in hand. I made my rounds: Maxwell had been adopted, Kringle's eyes were better, Mrs. Biggensworth was in her trash can, there were new kittens. All was well. However, on the way to Kringle's cage, I noticed a looming presence above me. I looked up and saw what appeared to be a tremendous black cat, lounging with one eye open as if to say "Do not disturb they royal nap." I chuckled to see his name was "London," considering his rather imperial personality and my affinity for the UK city. Curious, I opened his cage. He immediately leaped into my arms, wrapping his paws around my head, and stayed there. It was love at first sight, but I still wasn't sure. Feline friends are a big commitment. So I put him back after some cuddling. However, he rattled at the cage in protest; mouth moving in his characteristic silent "meow." (He doesn't want to be rude, but....) Just as I was about to apologize to him, I noticed a small dedicatory placard on the bars. It read "In loving memory of Justin Isom, friend of cats and scholar extraordinaire." My voice left me upon reading this. Everything went quiet. Justin was a close colleague of mine who passed away from cancer about a year ago. We shared a similar dry, inappropriate humor as well as a personal interest in Tibetan religion and tea. In the time before his passing, the events of our lives had prevented us from connecting. I last saw him at his birthday party before I went to Tibet that August. I wasn't able to make it to his funeral because of work obligations. These things had been bothering me greatly ever since. But here was this bit of synchronicity at Cat Welfare. I looked at London, who was still milking into space through the cage, and asked "Want to go home?" He agreed.
Since then, his name has changed. In full, it's "Basil T. Littlecat, Vicar of London." He has a minor sinus problem that the vets can't seem to vanquish, but he is chipper and otherwise has a clean bill of health. His favorite place during waking hours is my lap. At night, he sleeps on my head. Favorite games include: feather on a stick, lizard plushy on a string and tag. I also found out during a dinner party last weekend that he enjoys entertaining. He made sure to visit everyone's lap once they arrived. The women cooed over him and rubbed his one wonky ear, which he enjoyed thoroughly. Around 1:00 a.m., he fell asleep squarely in the middle of a circle of guests who were chatting on the floor.
I would like to thank you all at Cat Welfare for taking care of him since his arrival in October. He's a incredible, sweet little cat and his presence has made daily life that much more enjoyable, even if there are a few boogers on the bedspread. I wouldn't trade him for the world.
Best,
Alicia R. East
