What should I do if my cat is lost?
The first thing you should do is make a flyer that your cat is lost and
post the info on www.petfbi.org.
What info should I include on the flyer?
--a photo or photocopy of your cat (if possible)
--your cat's name
--if your cat was wearing a collar, then include a description of the collar
--description of your cat (color, size, distinctive markings, etc.)
--when your cat became lost
--area of town your cat became lost in (and any major roads nearby)
--your name
--your contact info (phone numbers)
What shelter should I send the flyers to?
Please, send your flyer a.s.a.p. to Cat Welfare. You can drop it off at
our shelter or mail it to:
Cat Welfare
741 Wetmore Rd.
Columbus, OH 43214
You can also e-mail your lost cat flyer to Cat Welfare by
clicking here.
You should send your flyers to Citizens For Humane Action, Pets Without Parents,
Cozy Cat Cottage, and the Capital Area Humane Society (you might want to call the info
into Capital Area also at 777-PETS). If your city has a local animal control officer,
then you should also send a flyer there.
What else can I do to help find my missing pet?
The Humane Society of the United States also suggests doing the below to help
find your lost feline friend.
-- Search your neighborhood. Walk or drive through your neighborhood several times
each day. Ask neighbors, letter carriers, and delivery people if they have seen your pet.
Hand out a recent photograph of your pet and information on how you can be reached if
your pet is found.
-- Advertise. Post signs at grocery stores, community centers, veterinary offices,
traffic intersections, and other locations. Also, place advertisements in newspapers
and with radio stations. Include your pet's sex, age, weight, breed, color, and any
special markings. When describing your pet, leave out one identifying characteristic and
ask the person who finds your pet to describe it.
-- Be wary of pet-recovery scams. When talking to a stranger who claims to have found
your pet, ask the person to describe the pet thoroughly before you offer any information.
If the person does not include the identifying characteristic you left out of the
advertisement, then the individual may not really have your pet. Be particularly wary of
people who insist that you give or wire them money for the return of your pet.
-- Don't give up your search. Animals who have been lost for months have been reunited
with their owners.
We hope you find your kitty soon!
