Cat Welfare lost a special friend when Scar passed away at the end of May 2003 and almost exactly 4 years to the day when he arrived at Cat Welfare in May 1999.

When Scar first came into the shelter, he had scratches and wounds over most of his body. He wasn’t in a very good mood at first. As he healed, so did his temperament. (See top two photos.) He never really took to the other shelter cats very much because of his timid nature. However, he was such a sweet cat and had such a very loving nature that he was well known to many shelter visitors. He was also one of the most spoiled cats at our shelter. He had almost everyone charmed into bringing special “people food” for him daily. Since Scar kept such a good eye on what was going on at the shelter, he occasionally served as a reporter for our newsletter. He had an ailment in his mouth that sometimes made it difficult for him to eat. Scar had regular visits to our vet so his mouth could be checked out and the vets had him on a special medication. Even though the medication would not cure his health problem, it kept him feeling as good as possible. The vets had prepared us for the day when the medicine no longer would ease Scar’s pain and we had hoped that day would be many years away.

Everyone was excited about our new Guardian Angels program and Scar had been selected to be one of the cats in the program. As we got ready to launch the program, Scar suddenly didn’t seem to be himself. We decided it would be better for the time being not to include him in the Guardian Angels program until he was better again. After several visits to the vet, he didn’t seem to be getting much better. At the recommendation of one of our vets, the decision was made that we would have to let Scar go. The staff said their goodbyes and Scar was given one of his favorite meals....a Wendy’s hamburger, french fries, and a frosty. Scar spent his last day being given lots of love by those he cared for most and spent his last moments in the arms of someone who loved him. (See middle photo.)

We buried Scar next to Bosworth and Three O’Clock in our special memory garden at the shelter. (See bottom two photos.) We will miss you sweet Scar, but you will live on forever in our hearts.
