This section is dedicated to featuring special cats who have yet to find their perfect home. Every
cat is special, but these cats are waiting for that
"special" person who can look past what others might call imperfections
and recognize their potential to become part of a loving home. These
are cats with "special" needs.
Special adoptions cats may be: older/senior cats, cats with physical
disabilities, cats who have been abused, cats with temporary or on-going
health concerns or conditions, cats who may require additional medical
care or medication, cats with behavioral problems, shy cats, or cats who
have been at the shelter for at least three months.
If you're not looking to adopt, then consider becoming a special friend to
one of these cats. They would really love to have someone that comes to
visit with them on a regular basis.
To see a larger view of most cats, click on the
thumbnail next to his or her story. Please, note that some photos don't
have larger versions.
Note: When cats are photographed, their eyes tend to shine green (similar to
the way human eyes reflect red when being photographed). Therefore, the
eyes of the cats in these photos may appear green but quite possibly may
be a different color.

Sophie (#27457)

MEOW, notice ME! My name is Sophie (#27457) and I do try to “work it” when it comes to finding me a human. I love people, I love being petted all over, and I love being held so I can rub my face on a human’s face. At six years old, I am still young enough to enjoy playing. Whacking at things hanging from a string happens to be my favorite game. Now that you know what makes me happy, I must confess that I really do not like other cats. I am willing to acclimate in a home with another feline family member as long as I am given time to adjust and there are no expectations that I will befriend the other kitty. In March 2010, I reached my four year mark for being a shelter resident. Do not get me wrong, the staff and volunteers are great but I could bring such joy to a family with all the affection I have to give. I do have a bit of a sense of humor. Last summer, while sunning my beautiful, petite self in our fenced in courtyard, I noticed a slight gap up near the top in one section of the fence. Therefore, I slid on out and just waited to surprise one of my staff pals. They could not figure out how I had gotten on the other side of the fence. Once I was secured inside I went right back outside, through the hole and began my wait. Well after about half a dozen times, I was still laughing inside but the staff was getting peeved. The staff found the hole, patched it up and now the only way I am getting out of here is for you to come and adopt me!

Dash (#26557)
 |
|
I'm Dash! I arrived at Cat Welfare as a kitten in 2005. I was returned to the shelter in 2007 when my owners were moving and they said that I would not be making the move with them. I'm full of spunk and love so I quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite. The family I lived with told the staff at the shelter that I had trouble with bladder infections. Sure enough I do have trouble with that if I eat the wrong type of food and the staff at the shelter has witnessed my bouts with bladder infections. When that happens I am confined to a cage, put on medication, and restricted to a special diet. As I am a strong boy, I quickly rebound from the bladder infections. When I am not confined to a cage, I enjoy speeding all around the shelter and zipping over to visitors to receive a hello and scratch on the top of my head. The girls here say that they think I can be healthy if I'm in a home where I can stick to my restricted diet. The only way that can happen at the shelter is if I'm in a cage all the time and I get sad when that happens. I hope there is a family out there who can open their hearts and give me a chance at a forever home.

Greetings from the Cat Welfare kitchen! My name is Emmy, and I’m CWA’s "behind-the-scenes" supervisor cat. Our shelter is the best in town, from our soft, clean beds to our yummy yummy food. I should know, because that’s my job: I manage these vital areas of day-to-day life here at Cat Welfare.
Step on in to my office, back in the kitchen/laundry room. I’m the (beautiful) lady found on top of the fridge, or in a nest on the counter. You won’t find me on the floor; I do all of my best supervising from on high. And what exactly do I do all day? So many things.
For example, as head laundress, I have to be on hand to test the softness of each and every load of laundry right as it comes out of the dryer. Our staff neatly folds it and waits while I lie on it myself. Sometimes this takes several minutes, but I demand nothing but the best for the rest of my shelter buddies. I also happen to be the official taste-tester of every meal prepared in our kitchen. I need to nibble from each can to be sure what’s inside is fresh and delicious. And no bag of crunchy chow gets added to our food supply without my personal seal of approval.
But lately, I’ve been thinking about a change of venue. I’ve been working at CWA since December 2007 now, and I think it’s time I put my considerable skills to work at a new location. So if anyone has a need for an official supervisor, I’ll be your cat! Come interview with me in the kitchen. Be sure to pick me up so you can whisper right into my ear. I love being held! Ideally, I’d like to work in a quieter environment, but I have great people (and kitty) skills, so having roommates isn’t a problem. Could your laundry need some testing? Perhaps your food, too? Then please stop by and see me, I’ve been waiting to work with you for a long time.

Charles (#28605)

Charles is usually on the go. Unlike some of the cats who stay in one room (or even one corner) most of the day, Charles can be found strutting around almost any area of the shelter, almost any time of our open hours. Named after Charlie Chaplin, this star would do best as the only cat in the household. He does tend to get jealous quickly here at the shelter if a cat steps in his spotlight. One of our veteran “cat whisperers”, Donna, calls him “Cha-Cha,” for short and swears that he answers to the sound of his name. Charles is active and healthy and would do well in a family without small children.

Chief Whitefoot (#26114)
 |
|
Hi! My name is Chief Whitefoot and I’m a 5-6 year old tabby boy with white “socks” on my feet, hence my name. I’m a pretty outgoing boy. I like to make my daily rounds at the shelter greeting everyone along they way while checking to see what’s been going on around here. I quietly and politely wait for my turn to be petted. I originally came into the shelter with my mother and brother. My mom was quickly adopted and sadly my brother passed away. Don’t worry though. As I love other cats, I quickly made some special pals here. I was adopted two times and was returned each time for reasons the staff say were not my fault so I’m hoping that the third one will be the charm. I’m already neutered and all ready to go so stop in to see me sometime soon!

Powder (#23941)

My name is Powder and I'm a beautiful, white male that is around 9 years old. I had been in one home and got returned because I got really stressed out there. Then I lived in another home, but my owner couldn't keep me and returned me. So, I'm hoping the third time will be the charm! I've been back at the shelter since October 2004 and am waiting for the right person to come my way and give me a special home. I'm neutered and declawed on all 4 paws. I may have a food allergy and may require special food, but I've been doing okay eating the chow the rest of the kitties get in here. I'm so happy when I am able to be out on the floor instead of in a cage. I love roaming around and exploring things. I love to play with kids so I wouldn't mind being in a home with children. I tolerate other cats, but I can get a little edgy at times--maybe it's because I don't have any claws and am unable to defend myself if one of them wants to play rough with me. Another thing I like to do is get in a person's lap for some one on one attention--but as soon as another cat tries to cat into that same lap then I'm out of there. I have some issues with using the litter box here in the shelter. I hope you'll come in and see me sometime soon. You can't miss me or my pure white fur. P.S. - I have a girlfriend here. Her name is Pammy and she is all black. She follows me around all the time and we love each other. Sometimes I make a big fuss when she tries to cuddle up with me, but I always end up letting her cuddle me in the end. We like to cuddle up on the table that the fish tank is on right by the front entrance. We'd love to have a home together if possible. I don't know what Pammy would do without me.

Lucinda (#23002)
 |
|
Hello everyone. My name is Lucinda. I'm a beautiful, grey, spayed female. I've been at the shelter since April 2002 and the staff thinks I'm over 13 years old. I've heard some of the staff say that I can be a little crabby at times. I don't think I'm crabby… I just am a bit of a loner and like to have time and space to myself. It's hard to get that with so many other cats around. So when I do get that time, I don't like to be disturbed. Don't get me wrong though. I do tolerate the other cats here. I would love to have a home where I can be the only cat. However, I'd be okay living in a home with another older cat or one that would respect my space. I like to be petted, but I also prefer it when it's on my terms. If I'm in the mood though, you'll see how much I appreciate being petted and loved. I'm not too sure about being held. I think I might let someone do that if I was in a home. I'm just not comfortable being carried around with all the other cats around here. Now, don't think I just sleep all day and don't do anything else. I do get the "kitten crazies" sometimes and will run around playing with a toy mouse. I really hope there is a person out there for me. I'd love to live the rest of my life in a home where I can relax, look beautiful, and show my appreciation to my special person.
