This section is dedicated to featuring special cats who have yet to find their perfect home. Every cat is special, but these cats are waiting for that "special" person who can look past what others might call imperfections and recognize their potential to become part of a loving home. These are cats with "special" needs.

Special adoptions cats may be: older/senior cats, cats with physical disabilities, cats who have been abused, cats with temporary or on-going health concerns or conditions, cats who may require additional medical care or medication, cats with behavioral problems, shy cats, or cats who have been at the shelter for at least three months.

If you're not looking to adopt, then consider becoming a special friend to one of these cats. They would really love to have someone that comes to visit with them on a regular basis.

Note: When cats are photographed, their eyes tend to shine green (similar to the way human eyes reflect red when being photographed). Therefore, the eyes of the cats in these photos may appear green but quite possibly may be a different color.

Annie (#32103) Annie
Annie is a beautiful short hair brown tiger with white complements. She is about a year-and-a-half old and arrived at the shelter in mid-August 2010. After a stay in her cage, she was recently promoted to "floor cat" status. She has set up shop on a kitty tree in the main adoption room, where she can supervise what is going on with staff and visitors alike. Best of all, she is basking in the attention she receives from people who reach out to pet her! Annie is cheerful and pleasant with humans, although she is adjusting to being in close quarters with so many other cats. If you are looking for a new best friend with whom you can enjoy life, come check out Annie! Update 3/30/11: Recently Annie was found to have diabetes. She is in good overall health; still active and inquisitive; still craving attention and love. Annie requires daily insulin shots. Perhaps a human with diabetes will understand best what Annie needs and will help her find her forever home.

Annie is up-to-date with routine shots, house/litter box trained and spayed. Stop in to see her soon.

Precious (#31706) Precious
Hello. I am Precious. I am a beautifully marked, medium sized, 3 year old brown tabby girl cat and I have lovely patterns of swirls and spirals on my sides. I am spayed, microchipped, up to date with shots and front declawed. I arrived at Cat Welfare in April 2010, and I was fit-to-be-tied and completely cantankerous. I was left here, but I had been someone’s pet at one time. While I was in a cage, I would ask for attention but as soon as a hand was near enough, I’d strike. I just couldn’t be nice. As time went by, I was let out of the cage to see how I worked as a floor cat. Surprisingly, I did quite well even though I didn’t like the other cats around me. I soon found that the people here at the shelter were really quite nice and I learned to get along reasonably well. I liked the staff, and would often accompany them while they did their tasks.

Things were going pretty well for me until last spring when I got an ear infection which was difficult to fix. I was put back in a cage and given lots of medicine, but the ear infection messed up my balance. I could hardly stand up some days. I was terrified and wanted someone to hold me and love me. Some nice volunteers helped me through this period. Alas, the damage to my ear is permanent. Today I am much better, but I still have a hard time walking. I weave around and can’t seem to stay in a straight line. Sometimes I crumple and fall. I am living in a cage because I feel safest there. The door is open and I am allowed to leave at any time. Sometimes it feels good to have a smaller space around me where I can rest quietly. I still love to be held and I don’t get this often enough. I love to have my hair brushed and to sit on a lap, even though I am known to squirm around for a long time until I can get comfortable. Sometimes I rub my head on the person’s lap and I start to cry, but usually it only lasts about a second. As long as the person holding me understands that when I do this, they need to hold me just a little tighter so I can calm down.

I am still adoptable. I would like nothing more than to live in a home with some nice people. Ideally, I need a home where there are no other cats, dogs or small children. Overactive things bother me. I would do best in a home where I wouldn't have to deal with stairs to climb as I have great difficulty with simple mobility. Older people who simply love cats would suit me fine. I am a good girl and I show love and affection easily to those who show me a little kindness. Please help me find a home. Thank you, Precious.

Abby (#24170) Abby
Abby is a beautiful girl with a lovely autumn colored coat. Sit down near this beautiful girl and she will come right over and make herself at home either on your lap or right next to you. Walk into the room and if she catches your glance she will look up at you with her big round eyes and you won’t be able to turn her away.

Abby is a quiet lady but sincerely enjoys socializing with anyone who will give her some of their time. Abby recently went on vacation with one of the friends of the shelter for a whole week where she was able to get a break from the hustle and bustle of shelter life. She quickly adapted to her new surroundings and made herself at home. During this vacation we found that she very much enjoys just being around people, and is happy to sit back and relax with you while you work or watch TV. If you have the time to give her some petting she will gladly accept but isn’t one bit greedy about it, although once you start giving this gal some lovin’ it is hard to pull away as she draws you in with her soft purr. Sometimes she will even pet you back by rubbing her face gently against you. When it’s time to call it a day Abby will even crawl into bed with you to keep you warm on those cool winter nights.

Abby also loves to play with feather wands and a toy called “the undercover mouse”, even a mature quiet gal likes to have a little fun now and then!

Abby was adopted once and was in a home for a number of years. We do not know why it didn’t last with her last family or why they dropped her off at another animal shelter in 2010. Luckily, she is micro-chipped so she was able to come back to Cat Welfare where she is loved by many! Even with all of us who love her here we are certain that she looks forward to the day when her new family walks through the door and takes her home. We estimate Abby is around 8 years old.

Abby does suffer from upper respiratory problems but that mostly just means that she get a runny nose & the sneezes sometimes but that doesn’t make her any less lovable and chances are good that once she gets out of the shelter it may just clear up for good.

She is looking forward to a visit from you so stop by and say hello, maybe you will find your next best friend in Abby.

Abby is up-to-date with routine shots, house/litter box trained, and spayed. Stop in to see her soon.

Henry (#32554) Henry
My name is Henry and I am looking for a new home. Actually, I am longing for a new home even though the good people here at Cat Welfare are taking good care of me. There are too many cats here and I’d like to be in a place with not so many of my own kind. I am a one year old brown tabby neutered male. My tail is stubby and short which is kind of cute (at least that’s what the gals who work here tell me). Naturally, I believe them. I have the classic markings of a tabby; I’ve got the M on my forehead and on my sides, the patterns are beautiful swirls of black on tan. I am getting along with other cats much better than I was a few months ago. In fact, I have found a couple pals here who I like to play with. One of the reasons I am having trouble finding a home is because I am a biter. I like people very much, and I like to get in laps, but without warning, I can't help myself and I will bite or scratch. They tell me that this is not good behavior. Anyway, I'd like to find a home with someone who understands the needs of a cat who bites once in awhile; someone who is patient and willing to try to help me get over this bad habit. I think I can do it; or at least I can be a better citizen if someone would be willing to study my habits so we can find a mutual peace together. On the plus side, I am very, very playful! I love to chase string toys and feathers. Lasers are OK, too, but they get a little boring after awhile. I am athletic and acrobatic when I play. I leap high in the air and turn somersaults just because it's fun. I don't bite when I'm playing. I would like to have a home.

Charlie (#32042) Charlie
Hello, I am Charlie “King of Back Isolation”. I am a large, healthy, affectionate male of approximately 10 years. I arrived at Cat Welfare in the summer of 2010. The staff and volunteers who know me just absolutely love me. As much as I know they would miss me, they do wish I had a home where I could rule supreme. They have tried to talk me into helping myself and wooing an adopter, but every time they take me up to the main adoption room I run like greased lightening back to my comfort zone. I hear them chuckling about big ole me acting like a scared cat but really it is just about getting back to my kingdom and making sure operations are running smoothly.

Charlie is up-to-date with routine shots, house/litter box trained, and neutered. Stop in to see him soon.
